Saving Money on Insurance

Insurance, as everyone knows, is not cheap. However, knows a way to cut the price while maintaining good coverage.

How to Save Money on Car Insurance
In spite of the state of the economy one expense that drivers these days can't cut from their monthly budget is auto insurance. The good news is that thanks to the wide variety of leading car insurance companies in this day and age, drivers no longer have to be stuck with paying for expensive full coverage auto insurance plans. Every driver has the opportunity to choose a cheap auto insurance plan or a more affordable full coverage auto insurance.

How Much Car Insurance Do You Need?

The first step to finding a more affordable car insurance policy is determining how much auto insurance you really need. For example, most people who lease or purchase new vehicles are required to have full coverage policies but after the car is five years old or older those full coverage policies are no longer necessary. Before switching to a more affordable auto insurance policy, make sure that you verify how much automobile insurance you're required by law to have in your state because, the amount of insurance does vary from state to state and you can face a ticket and heavy fines if you're found to be under-insured.

Saving Money Is Easy

Before choosing just any vehicle insurance policy, there are several key things that you can do:

1. Ask for a bundle rate - If the insurance company offers other forms of insurance like life, disaster or home owners insurance make sure that you ask for a special bundle rate for choosing more than one policy with the same company.

2. Drive your car less per year - Even though you might not like the idea of driving less this is the best way to save money on car insurance.

3. Stay a good driver - It's true that a good drivers discount does pay off. If you want to continue saving money on your vehicle insurance, set a priority to stay a safe driver and you will be able to continue enjoying that savings.

4. Be a good student - one of the best ways to get an affordable car insurance policy for a student is to have good grades.

5. Move to a safe neighborhood - Most auto insurance policies charge their customers more based on where they live. If you're able to move to a safer neighborhood, you can enjoy a significant savings every year.

How to Find the Right Car Insurance Company

You should get at least five quotes to get a good comparison of the best rates that are available for you on the internet. Before signing up with a new automobile insurance company make sure that they have a solid history of paying accident claims and that their coverage is good nationwide.

Parallel Perfection

In the last month I discovered something interesting about myself: I can do parallel parking well only when I'm alone. When there are other passengers with me, I often park far away from the curb, which requires me to start again.

From what I've seen, I'm not the only one with this problem, and the only solution is some practice. I don't drive much with others, so I guess I'll have to keep practicing only when I can.

Did it ever happen to you?

Stay Calm and Focused

It's Friday once again, which means it's time for another article full of great tips for passing the driving test. This time it's about staying calm and focused.

Driving Test Tips – How to Stay Calm and Focused During Your Driver’s Test

In order to pass your driver's test, you need to be in the right mindset. You need to stay calm and focused. Letting your nerves get the best of you will cause you to fail. Sure, most beginner drivers feel nervous when they take their driving test, but only those who can keep their nerves in check will be able to pass.

The best way to stay calm is to get plenty of practice. Learn how to drive safely and properly. Practice on the testing routes before you take the test.

Here are some tips on how to have the right mindset:

• Think positive! Instead of thinking "what am I going to do to mess up? What mistakes am I going to make? How will I screw up?" Thinking something along the lines of "What mistakes can I AVOID making? What do I need to do in order to pass?"

• While it's important to stay positive, you don't want to be overly confident. Don't be so confident to the point where you are arrogant. Some student drivers think they are the best drivers in the world. They are so overly confident that they neglect the little things and make mistakes.

• Take some practice tests before the big day. You will feel confident when you pass. If you miss any questions, check the answers. Find out why you missed those questions and make improvements where necessary.

• Don't like to feel pressure? Don't tell anybody that you are about to take your test! If you tell all of your friends, you will feel pressured to pass. You may end up putting more focus on impressing your friends than on passing for the sake of passing.

• Visualize yourself passing. Before the test, take some deep breaths and close your eyes. Imaging yourself on the test route, making all of the correct moves. Visualize the vehicle and imagine yourself sitting in the driver's seat. Go through the entire testing process in your mind. Think of how happy you will be when you are told that you passed!

• While the driving test is something you should take seriously, you shouldn't view it as a life or death matter. There's no limit on the number of times you can take it. It won't be the end of the world if you fail. Just try again and again until you pass! Focus more on the test process itself more so than whether or not you pass.

If you keep these tips in mind, you should be in the right mindset for your driving test. You won't feel as nervous on the big day.

Read some more online driving secrets so that your test goes smoothly! Online driving courses will provide you with the knowledge you need to pass the road exam. Just check out some driving test guides, practice quizzes, videos, and other resources.

Getting your driver's license is not that hard. If you would like to pass your driving test without trying so hard, you should get yourself this amazing driving test guide.

I hope it helpd you,

Another Money for License Attempt

Once again, a woman tries to offer an examiner money for a passing score. This time it happened in Akron, and the woman offered $90.

I don't know how much examiners make, but $90 sounds like an insulting number. In Israel, two examiners were recently arrested because they are suspected of taking bribes of $260 (much more impressive).

The Reason for Mandatory Insurance

Every week I present an article about the importance of insurance, but this week it's an article about the reason. Today it's who will explain us about why we all have to pay for insurance.

Why Do We Have Mandatory Auto Insurance?

The term compulsory automobile insurance, unfortunately, is subject to several interpretations and this fact has resulted in no end of confusion. It is easily conceivable that the motorist might be required by law to insure his car against fire, theft, collision, earthquake, glass breaking, etc., but such types of insurance all apply to the car as such, and are not directly related to the problem which arises when the owner or operator of a car injures or kills some other person or persons.

Therefore the controversy centers about the meaning of the words "liability" and "compensation." In certain respects these two types of insurance are diametrically opposed to each other. Especially this is true from the viewpoint of the injured person attempting to get monetary remuneration. His chance of success differs greatly in respect to these two varieties of insurance.

If we disregard for the moment certain exceptions and qualifications, we may say that mandatory compensation insurance means that each car owner would be required to pay an annual premium to either an insurance company or to a state fund for the purpose of paying benefits to victims of auto accidents, or to their dependents in case of death.

The question of fault would be raised only incidentally, if at all, the courts having nothing to do with the case; and with few exceptions, the injured person would be certain of receiving compensation based upon a prescribed table of benefits. An automobile compensation commission would consider the facts in each case, as does an industrial commission in connection with workmen's compensation, and would make awards accordingly.

Thus the whole question of fault would be disregarded, largely on the twofold assumption that fault is difficult to determine in motor accidents and that such accidents, no matter whose fault they are, create social problems of dependency which can best be met by motorists as a group.
Compulsory auto liability insurance, unlike car compensation insurance, is based upon the common law of negligence and the doctrine of personal fault. Each car owner is required to purchase a liability insurance policy as a prerequisite to obtaining a license. If the injured person or his representatives can obtain a court verdict for "damages," the organization with which the driver is insured is responsible for paying the bill within the limits prescribed in the insurance policy. The motorist is thus protected within the limits of the policy.

Outside of a few inconveniences he is just as well off as if no accident had occurred, providing the court does not render a verdict in excess of the amount covered by the insurance. The injured person, to obtain remuneration, must win his case in the courts. This involves proving that he contributed nothing to the cause of the accident, and that the driver alone was one hundred per cent at fault. It has been estimated that in probably two-thirds of all injury cases the plaintiff is unable to prove this and thus can obtain no remuneration by resort to the courts.

The public at large draws little or no distinction between the compensation and liability principles of auto insurance, despite the basic differences. Some newspaper editorials, magazine articles and pamphlets make the same error. Even legislators are confused by the two principles. The average person, unacquainted with the meaning of insurance terms, in approving mandatory insurance thinks he is approving a plan by which all of the victims of motor accidents receive compensation. The term, liability insurance, is often used when the speaker is actually thinking of compensation insurance. Members of the insurance profession and others have attempted to clear up this difficulty but the misunderstanding still persists in most minds.

Site visitors can compare auto insurance quotes for popular cars by make and model, read car reviews, view safety ratings, and request cheap auto insurance quotes for any potential vehicle purchase well ahead of time.

I hope this rain will continue as long as I'm indoors. When I'm driving, I want the sun to shine and the road to be dry. Hoping is free and harmless.

Common Driving Errors - Yet Again

Two thirds of January have gone by, and once again it's time to go over some common driving test mistakes.

Driving Test Errors – A Guide to Common Mistakes Made by Student Drivers During an Exam

In order to get your driver's license, you are going to have to pass a written test and road exam. The written test is a piece of cake for most student drivers. The road exam is far more challenging. As you prepare for your test, you need to know all of the rules. You need to not only know what to do, but what not to do as well.

If you are aware of the common mistakes made by student drivers, you should be able to pass the test. You will know what to avoid so that your chances of making mistakes are reduced.
Here are some of the mistakes that you need to avoid when you take your driving road test.

Operating Your Vehicle

Operating the car should be the very first thing you learn how to do before driving it. Failing to do the following will cause you to fail the test:

• Knowing where the hazard lights are
• Turning on the signals
• Adjust the mirrors
• Adjusting the seat
• Turning on the windshield wipers when needed

Yielding and Stopping

Knowing when to yield is essential. You need to ensure that you are out of the way of oncoming traffic. For example, if you are at an intersection and planning to turn left, you must check for a green arrow or green light. Make sure there is no oncoming traffic.

Also, don't forget to come to a complete stop at a stop sign or red light. Even when there is no other car on the road at a stop light, you should still stop for several seconds.

Failing to Observe Surroundings

Many drivers put so much focus on their own vehicles that they forget to observe others. You should always be aware of your surroundings. In addition to other vehicles, you should be on the lookout for pedestrians and obstructions on the road ahead. Check all of your mirrors regularly while driving.

Failing to Turn Properly

Here are some tips on how to turn properly so that you pass your driving test:

• Don't make the turn too tight. A tight turn might cause you to hit the curb. If you turn too tightly on a left turn, you might end up entering opposing traffic.

• You don't want your turns to be too wide, either. On a right turn, it could cause you to enter the wrong lane. On a left turn, it could mean hitting the curb.

• If there is more than one turning lane, it's important to stay on them when you are preparing for a turn. Don't just go zigzagging around all of the lanes.

• Don't forget to signal in the RIGHT direction!

You can learn all of the driving test secrets you need to know by reading an online driving guide! There are practice quizzes, step-by-step guides, videos, etc. that teach beginner drivers all they need to know.

Getting your driver's license is not that hard. If you would like to pass your driving test without trying so hard, you should get yourself this amazing driving test guide.

I personally don't really like all this green hype. Natural gas pollutes too, and until scientists can make electricity with cold fusion, there won't be a really clean energy solution (the cleanest so far is nuclear power).

How to Find Quality Insurance Quotes

Finding good insurance quotes can be a tough mission, but it can be done. Here is an article by (interesting name, isn't it?) about insurance.

In Search Of Quality Auto Insurance Quotes

Trying to find good auto insurance quotes can seem like a hassle, or that it might take you a lot of time. However finding the best car insurance prices around can be quite easy. All you need to do is know where to look and what you need out of your policy. Here are some good ways to find auto insurance quotes that will fit your needs.

Go Online And Find Quotes Fast

The Internet is a great tool in that it will help you find whatever you need in a hurry. Finding great auto insurance quotes is no different. You can search through the search engines, go to a company site, or use your phone to find great companies that offer you quotes online. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to have a list of quotes that you can compare to find the best insurance for your needs and budget.

Know Your Needs And Budget

When you are shopping for insurance, you should know what you need and what you can afford to pay for. If you drive an old station wagon that is 15 years old, you don't need as much coverage as someone who is driving a brand new convertible. Therefore, you should understand that you don't need a lot of fancy coverage outside of liability coverage and maybe extra money to cover a rental in case of an accident. Remember that you can lower your premium by raising your deductible.

Never Buy A Policy You Feel Is Overpriced

There is going to be a policy out there for you. If you do not find anything online, there is going to be a local insurance company. If there is no local insurance company that offers a competitive rate, there are always companies that operate solely on the Internet. Remember that a driver with a good driving record, credit rating and a safe car should be able to get a cheap rate. Even if you are a new driver, you can get a discount for being a good student, or for bundling your auto policy with a renters insurance policy if you rent an apartment.

Make Sure Your Information Is Accurate

When it comes to auto insurance quotes, make sure all the information you give is accurate. Also make sure that your driving record is accurate and that no one has messed around with any of your information. If someone has used your identity to purchase a policy, and then got into an accident, it could ruin your chance at a good rate. Therefore, make sure all your information is accurate before assuming you have gotten the best possible deal.

Finding auto insurance rates might seem like something that could be a huge time consumer. However, a quick check of the Internet, or a handy smartphone app, could really speed the process up. Remember that you can always find a good quote if you shop around and insist on the best price for your pristine driving record and a decent credit history.

Frosty Weather

It's the middle of January, and it's super-cold. For me, a single digit temperature (Celcius, of course) is super-cold, and lately we're reaching 6 and even 5 degrees around here, which makes going out very difficult.

Driving in the morning is near impossible. The car is freezing, and all the windows are covered with dew. The windshield is easy to wipe (and the rear window, since I have a wiper there as well), but the mirrors and side windows require some manual clean up, which freezes the hand.

As far as I dislike this cold weather, I wouldn't trade it for one second with the summer weather, which makes driving nearly impossible without a fully-operating air conditioner.

The Secrets of Parallel Parking

Today is Friday the 13th (first one of the year), which is a perfect time to talk about one of the most feared parts of the driving test: parallel parking.

Here is an article I wrote about it. Of course, more details can be found in my driving test guide.

Driving Test Secrets: Step-by-Step Guide on Parallel Parking for Beginner Drivers

Parallel parking is the most intimidating aspect of taking a driving test. Even experienced motorists have trouble with parallel parking. They got plenty of practice when they were preparing for their test, and got out of practice after passing it. Even after you pass your test, you should continue parallel parking. It's an important skill that will come in handy when you need a parking space!

There are videos online that show how to parallel park in detail. Just watch those videos and read this step-by-step guide:

• First, you need to practice. In order to practice, look for a parking space. There should be enough room for you to move your car into without hitting or pumping into another vehicle. The space should be longer than your vehicle. Drive down the street until you see a large enough spot.

• Once you see a space, check the side and rearview mirrors. As you approach the spot, signal towards it. Slowly come to a stop. Should another vehicle ride up on your rear, just maintain the position. Keep on signaling. If the other driver doesn't realize what you are doing, wave them around.

• Line up with the parked car directly in front of the spot. Line up with it without getting too close to it. Being 2-3 feet away from it should suffice. Position your car parallel to that parked car.

• Put your car in reverse. When the street is clear behind you, back up. Look over your shoulder to make sure that there is enough space to move in. Steer the wheel to the right. Let off the brakes. Carefully and slowly begin to back into the turn.

• Your car should be sufficiently away from bumper of the car or truck parked in front of the spot as you slide into it. All you have to do is change gear and pull your car forward about three feet.

• Once the rear is in the space, turn the wheel to the left, still going backward. Continue moving in reverse. Go as far back as you possibly can without bumping or hitting the vehicle parked behind you.

• Change the shift into drive. Afterwards, turn the wheel to your right. You must move forward to the curb. Try to center your car in the spot as best you can. It shouldn't be difficult if you've done everything correctly.

Now, you should be parked perfectly in the space! If you are not, you can try again. Just signal that you are going to leave the spot and pull out. Pull back up until you are aligned with the parked vehicle in front of you again. Just start over. Keep trying until you can parallel park!

If you follow this guide and watch some parallel parking videos, you should be able to parallel park well enough to pass your driving test! There are plenty of driving resources and tips online to help you become a good driver.

Getting your driver's license is not that hard. If you would like to pass your driving test without trying so hard, you should get yourself this amazing driving test guide.

Hopefully this article reduced your fear. Even by a little.

The Michigan Insurance Reform

The state of Michigan is undergoing several changes in the no-fault insurance law. Here is an article by describing those changes.

Michigan No-Fault Auto Insurance Reforms

If passed, HB-4936 will reform the Michigan No-Fault auto insurance law that was first created in the 1970's. Under the current No-Fault law, all Michigan auto insurance policies contain a coverage called Personal Injury Protection, or PIP. PIP includes several provisions, including unlimited medical benefits and up to 85% of the insured's lost income from work, subject to a monthly maximum amount. Michigan is the only state that mandates unlimited medical coverage.

The crux of the issue is the rate at which the cost of catastrophic injury claims are increasing in combination with the way our No-Fault Law currently works. At present, PIP benefits within the auto insurance policy must pay medical providers the full amount of fees they deem to be "reasonable and customary". Other medical insurance sources are able to pay reduced fees because of PPO or HMO agreements or, in the case of workers compensation, a fee schedule that is part of Michigan's Workers Compensation Statute.

At present, there is no dollar limit on the amount of PIP benefits payable for an injury stemming from an automobile accident. There are two charges within a Michigan auto insurance policy that pay for this benefit: One is the premium paid for PIP coverage. This money is retained by the insurance company and is used to cover the first $500,000 of a claim for PIP benefits. Another charge is the MCCA assessment. The assessment, which will increase slightly to $145.00 per vehicle in 2012, is a fee the insurance companies are required to collect and pass on to the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA). The MCCA fully reimburses the insurance company for the portion of an injury claim that exceeds $500,000. According to the MCCA, the highest percentage of people whose PIP claim costs exceed $500,000 are between the age of 16-20 (12.4%).

According to a report presented by Sharon Tennyson Ph.D. as testimony before the Michigan House Insurance Committee on October 4, 2011, the average amount paid for a Michigan PIP claim during 2010 was $35,446. The report also states that only 1% to 2% of all PIP claims in Michigan exceed $500,000. The problem is that the few claims (1% to 2%) that exceed $500,000 account for 47% of all PIP claims costs. In other words, once the claim cost exceeds $500,000, chances are that it may be huge.

The goal of the proposed legislation is to help curb the rising cost of auto insurance in Michigan. According to a legislative analysis summary from the House Fiscal Agency, there are six key provisions to the proposed change in our No-Fault Law:

No-fault policies would no longer automatically cover unlimited lifetime medical and rehabilitation benefits. Instead, drivers could choose personal injury protection (PIP) coverage with (1) a maximum of $500,000; (2) a maximum of $1,000,000; or (3) a maximum of $5,000,000. The default amount would be $500,000.

The current Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA), which currently pays medical and rehabilitation claims once they exceed $500,000, would be divided into two accounts: (1) the MCCA Account, which would only apply to losses attributable to accidents before July 1, 2012; and (2) an Excess PIP Account, which would apply to losses attributable to accidents on or after July 1, 2012. Each account would be self-supporting and assets and liabilities could not be transferred between them.

Under the bill, for loss occurrences attributable to accidents on or after July 1, 2012, each auto insurance company would pay for 100% of the ultimate loss under PIP coverage up to $500,000. The MCCA would reimburse the auto insurance company 90% of the ultimate loss from $500,000 and $1,000,000 and 100% of the loss in excess of $1,000,000.

The fee schedule used in the Workers' Compensation system would be applied to payments made by auto insurers to physicians, hospitals, and other providers treating an injured person or providing rehabilitation. (The fee schedule would not apply to emergency medical services provided by ambulance operations.)

Individuals injured on a motorcycle involved in an accident with a motor vehicle could claim PIP benefits only up to a maximum of $250,000.

Specific limits would be placed in statue on attendant care or nursing services provided in an injured person's home, including limits on hourly payment for the provision of basic services and skilled services.

If passed, how would claim costs be covered if they exceeded the limit of insurance chosen on the auto insurance policy? Likely, they would become the responsibility of other insurance sources such as private medical insurance, VA Benefits or Medicaid.

The airwaves are alive with radio ads from both those who favor this change and those who oppose this change. Insurance companies and many consumers favor the change as it would help contain spiraling medical costs resulting from auto accidents and help to keep auto insurance premiums reasonable. Health care providers oppose the change.

Speed Cameras - A Cruel Tax

On Sunday, January 1st, a new set of speed cameras started working around here. These cameras work with some sensors on the road, so it's very hard to detect them at night and their fines are almost non-arguable.

In my opinion, speed cameras, especially on highways and freeways, are just another tax. Most people drive at a reasonable speed, and if that speed is higher than the speed limit, so that's the reasonable speed. The speed limit, in my opinion, is not a real life saver.

People die on the road from distractions. Higher speeds increase the severity of the accident, but we just can't drive at 30 mph. That is against the purpose of the road.

What can we do? Try to protest. Maybe the government around here will get rid of this New Year's present and let us drive at a reasonable speed with a reasonable price.

The Advantages of Online Courses

Driving is not a theoretic skill, but in order to know what to practice, you may need a course. Here is an article I wrote about this topic.

Online Driving Courses – 9 Benefits of Using Online Tools and Resources for Driving Students

There are many benefits of taking an online driver's education course. There are plenty of tools and resources available for student drivers. You can take online quizzes, watch videos, read parallel parking guides, and so forth. The typical handbook you probably received from your DMV doesn't include all of the information you need to know in order to successfully pass the written AND road tests.

Another downside to just using typical DMV handbooks is that they're boring! If you want to study for your test, you will need an informative guide that you can easily understand.
Here are some benefits of taking advantage of online tools and resources:

1. You can find all of the laws exclusive to your state. Since driving laws vary from state to state, you can find online driving resources exclusive to your location.

First Time Driving: Oliver

Dear readers, please welcome Oliver, our first driver in the first time driving section of this year! Yes, a boy.

Watch him drive his father's Audi. Very slowly.

This video is from last Friday, which means Oliver still has a very long way until he can get his license. When he'll gain some confidence, he'll have no difficulty passing the test.

Good luck!

Very Long Test Drive

Taking a car for a test drive is a risky process for the car owner. Auto dealers have a way to handle it, but people who sell privately take a much bigger risk.

Daniel Moshier abused his chance given to him by a woman on Craigslist. He was caught last Thursday for driving without headlights, and then it turned out he literally took a test drive and never returned the car.

The thief was arrested and the woman got her car back. Sometimes crime doesn't pay.

Auto Insurance in Texas

Auto insurance is different in each US state. Prices, laws, and regulations vary from loose to very harsh. Here is an article by about Texas.

Texas Automobile Insurance

Did you know that, in the state of Texas, it is required that you hold the minimum amounts of liability insurance on each car that you own? In fact, you can't even register a vehicle in Texas without showing proof of insurance. So, what is the minimum requirement for liability insurance in Texas? What is the recommended amount? How do you go about finding a car insurance company that has your best interest in mind? These are questions that you should discuss with insurance agents and know the answer to before purchasing car insurance from any particular company.

Texas Regulations for Car Insurance
Being a car owner in Texas, you should know what regulations are required for your auto insurance. Currently, the law requires a minimum coverage of $30,000 per injured person per accident, $60,000 for all injured people in an accident, and $25,000 for property damage. But, the laws are constantly changing, so be sure that you know the current Texas insurance requirements before you purchase your car. Because Texas is a tort state (rather than a "no fault" state), there is always someone found to be the cause of the accident. This person is then responsible for all damages and the victims are compensated by the at-fault person's liability insurance policy. If damages are greater than the coverage amount, the victim can sue the at-fault party for additional charges. Because of this, most Texas insurance companies recommend that drivers carry higher coverage than the minimum required by law. Talk to a couple different insurance agents to see what the recommended amount is for you.

Choosing the Auto Insurance That's Right for You
Beyond just the required liability coverage, car insurance policies should offer property and medical coverage as well. It is crucial to know that your family will be financially covered no matter what tragic accident could happen on the road. So, how do you begin to choose among the hundreds of companies out there? Deciding between the different available options is not just about comparing prices and services, but speaking with insurance agents to make sure you can trust them. Often times some of the large, popular insurance companies will just look at you as another policy number and not even bother to learn your name or sympathize with your needs. Don't just take the easy route by automatically going with one of the "big name" companies. Look into local insurance companies to compare what they have to offer as well. You may be surprised with the great service, good deals, and friendly people that you find. Personally, I prefer to be treated as a part of the family, rather than just another policy number!

Melissa Rea supports local, family-owned businesses and would be happy to recommend anyone in the central Texas area to Allstar Insurance, where you will be treated as part of the family.

Happy New Year!

We've made it, my friends. Today is officially 2012, the first "real" anniversary of Pass Your Driving Test. The guide is almost four years old, but its real birthdate is February 29, a date that comes only once every four years.

I am planning a surprise party for that date. I hope you will be there.

May we all have a fantastic year!
