Getting Hit by Stupidity

October is ending, and as usual, it's time to make fun of someone who shouldn't operate cars. For example: this driver.

Hopefully November will bring her better news.

Another Track for Automated Vehicles

The automated vehicles market is getting heated up. The University of Michigan is just OK'd another test track for such vehicles.

How long do you think it'll be until we won't have to drive? I give it at most 20 years.

Teenagers' Insurance - A Must?

When teens get their driver's license, insurance becomes a big part of their expenses. Here is an article by Vinay Khanna explaining about teen insurance.

Should Teenagers Have Auto Insurance?

When teenagers obtain driving license, parents naturally worry about their children. There are valid reasons why parents should feel this way. Statistics reveal that most teenagers drive the vehicles in a reckless manner and they tend to exceed acceptable driving speed limits, without disregard for personal safety. There are several pros and cons in including the teenagers in your current insurance policy or a taking a new policy for them.

Pros in Including Teenage Drivers in Your Insurance Coverage

• It is very easy to extend your options of insurance coverage to your teenage child. All the limits, coverages, and deductibles would apply to the teen also. If you are providing your child with a new car, you could even customize the protection coverages of the teen, such as collision coverage, comprehensive coverage, etc. to ensure safety of the new car.

• If you present a new car to your child, you would qualify for the discount that most insurance companies offer for multi-car policies. Nearly all insurance companies offer significant discounts when you take insurance coverage for more than one vehicle under multi-car insurance programs.

• On most occasions, the insurance company might increase the amount of the deductible when you add your teenage child to the present coverage due to the perception that teenagers are not only inexperienced but are also of higher risk. The discount on adding a new car along with the teenager would result in offsetting the additional cost.

Cons in Including Teenage Drivers in Your Insurance Coverage

• Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has reported that teenagers get involved in 3 times more accidents for each mile of driving, compared to drivers who are more than 20 years in age. When you add your teenage child to your current insurance coverage, the insurance company would definitely increase the deductible and the cost of the coverage would go up.

• If the teenager gets involved in auto accident or receives several moving violations, the monthly rate would also increase proportionately. You would lose perks in auto policies such claim-free discounts or good driving discounts. If the damage to the vehicle exceeds the coverage amounts, you might have to bear the additional expenses from your pocket. Hence, it is important to enhance the coverage limits when you add a teenager to your coverage and this would result in higher deductibles.

You could also consider buying a separate coverage for your teenage child but the cost of two separate insurance policies would always be higher than a single coverage for the entire family.

When you plan car insurance for teens, you should consider all pros and cons before deciding whether to include the teen in your present auto insurance coverage or purchase a separate coverage for the teen.

Thank you Vinay! That article definitely helped many readers.

Finally Raining

We've waited, we wanted it, and now it's finally here. Rain has finally fallen around here, and we can finally enjoy a free car wash and cool days.

As for driving, we have to be careful now. It's the first rain in months, which means the roads will be extra slippery now. I think it's better to knock off a few kilometers per hour from our speed to reduce risk.

Anyway, fall is here. Summer is over. Finally.

Driving Test Practice Tips

Test tips are a huge part of this blog, and this week is no different. Here is a new set of tips for your driving practice.

Confidence and positive thinking are the keys to passing the driver's exam. While most people do feel nervous, those who pass are the ones who can remain as calm as possible.

If you know that you're a good driver, then you won't have much to worry about. The only way you're going to become a good driver is if you get out there and practice. Make sure you are practicing with a good teacher who can provide you with support. You should also study the written material so you'll understand the rules. You will have to pass a written test anyway before you can actually get behind the wheel.

Even after you've passed the written test, you should still continue going over the written material so you won't forget what you've learned. It's important that you remember all of the rules of the road and the meanings of signs when you practice driving.

Here are some tips to help you pass your driving test.

· Whenever you are going anywhere with someone as a passenger, watch how they drive. Watch how they move the wheel. Notice the speed they are driving at. When approaching red lights or STOP signs, pay attention to when they start slowing down. Being an observant passenger will help you become an observant driver.

· Know the roads and streets in your area. Practice driving various routes. You can start off on the easiest roads and slowly work your way up to busy ones. Know where all of the signs and signals are located. You might even want to look online to see if you can find the testing routes in your town or city.

· You're not going to pass if you forget to do the small, but important things such as checking the rearview mirror and signaling when making a turn. Make the pre-driving ritual part of your practice. Check to make sure your passenger has his/her seatbelt on and remember to put your own on. If you have to pull out of a parking spot, turn around to make sure nobody is behind you and put the car in reverse.

· At some point you will have to venture out on an intersection. When you do, you'll need to learn how to merge properly. You will have to pay attention to how fast the other vehicles are going and go the same speed yourself. It's important to keep traffic flowing smoothly.

The more you practice, the more your nervousness will wear off. Even if you are nervous on test day, try your best to stay calm, even if you're not sure if you are doing well. Worrying about one mistake will only increase your chances of making more.

To make it easier to pass by studying online driving guides. You will be able to study and practice if you have access to good material. Online student driver courses come with tips and secrets on how to get through the test without any problems. Be sure to check them out!

I hope this article helped you,
