Remembering the True North

A year ago I was in a much better place. I was in the north of the United States, the place of mild temperatures and fantastic weather. And I had a Honda Civic (although my car is great and I don't mean to insult it).

Remembering it makes it extra-hot for me outside. Even though it's much better than it used to be here, it's still super-hot inside the car, and it really makes driving hard.

September is near, and soon after that October is here, hopefully filled with cool breezes and much better weather.

Oh Canada

After visiting the US, I have arrived at Canada. After quite an investigation I was let in the country just to find out one simple truth about its roads: they are exactly the same as in the US.

Same traffic laws, same markings, all the same. The only two noticeable differences are the traffic lights which are horizontal for some weird reason and the measurements are done in the metric system.

Since I come from a place that uses the metric system, Canada should be great for me. However, it turns out that even with higher numbers, speed limits are lower in this northern country.

Next week I'll go back to the US, the land of the inch and the home of the mile.

Gas Relief

After several difficult months, gas priced have finally dropped around here. Oil prices returned to their low prices and we are all celebrating by crying just a little less at the pump.

Fortunately for me, in two days I'll be in the US, which means that prices will be half of the ones I pay here. No more filling and crying, until I return.

See you in America!

First Time Driving: Ian

Once again, we have the rare case of a first time driving boy. Today it's Ian's turn. He's driving around the neighborhood (slowly), not making too much noise, and generally looks good.

This video was uploaded about a month ago, so Ian still has a long way to go. By the way he's driving now, he'll be able to pass his test very quickly.

Legal DUI

It's unbelievable, but the law can be pretty stupid sometimes. For example, in an undecided DUI case. Emily Vernon, a finance director at a sherrif's office, drove while she is drunk and after taking sleeping pills. She was not charged of anything. How? No witnesses.

According to the law, a person can be charged with DUI only if there are witnesses that saw him in the car. Emily Vernon was lucky. No one saw her driving her truck, and when the police caught her, she was outside. A lucky person indeed.

There is still an investigation going on in this case, but one thing can be said for sure: the law can be very foolish sometimes.

Don't drink and drive,
