Focus Your Learning

When learning to drive, there are several points you should focus on. Here is an article I wrote about this topic.

Tips for Learning How to Drive - What Should You Focus On?

If you are planning to get your driver's license, then you need to learn how to drive properly. You need to know all of the rules of driving in order to pass the exam. Ideally, you should be confident in your driving ability, yet not OVERLY confident to the point where you're not cautious.

Hopefully, you are practicing with a good instructor. You can find resources and tools online to help you prepare for the test. Take that information and apply it when you are out practicing. You need to learn everything from parallel parking to the laws in your area. You should also make sure that the vehicle is in excellent condition.

Here are some tips on practicing:

• When you practice braking, make sure you do it slowly. Don't just suddenly step down on the brake pedal. This will get points knocked off of your test. When you stop a vehicle, just use a small amount of traction. All it takes is a gently push for the wheels to stop.

• As soon as you get in the vehicle, always remember to do the following: adjust the mirrors, put on your seat belt, make sure your passenger(s) have their seat belts on, start the vehicle, release the parking brake, make sure nobody is behind you while backing out, and signal properly.

• You need to know how to maintain proper speed. Always be aware of who to yield to and what to do when other drivers yield to do. You should also know which lane you are supposed to drive in and, which lane to turn into when it's time to turn.

• Make sure you know how to work everything, including the parking brake, windshield wipers, headlights, parking lights, and other instruments. Your examiner will be testing you on the knowledge of all of the instruments during the test.

• Pay close attention to others when they drive. Have a good, responsible driver take you around in his or her vehicle. While you are the passenger, observe everything that he or she does. Imagine that you yourself are doing the same thing, and your practice should go easier.

• Don't forget to check your blind spot! This is a common reason why some people fail! Always check your blind spot whenever you pull out of a parking spot or change lanes. Don't rely on the mirrors alone.

• Print out maps of the area around the test center and practice driving on those roads. Mark difficult areas such as challenging junctions and one-way streets, and practice driving on them everyday.

As long as you put a lot of focus into your studying and practicing, all should go well. Good luck!

Get ready to take your driving test by taking an online driving course! There are many resources and practice quizzes online. You can prepare yourself for the road exam by looking over these helpful guides. You can also find a checklist of every single thing the examiner will be watching you do.
