Last week I promised a driving test article for Friday, but I completely forgot that it's going to be the end of the month. You'll have to wait until next week for fresh new articles.

And today, to celebrate the end of July (this month has gone by really fast), a video of a very long parking attempt. Watch and DON'T learn.

First Time Driving: Taylor

Today I'm going to deviate a little from a usual habit I have in the first time driving section, and put a video shorter than one minute. However, this video is a classic screaming video that I just couldn't resist. Here it is: Taylor driving (while screaming).

This video was uploaded on March, so Taylor is probably very close to her license by now. Hopefully she can drive and talk calmly.

Good luck!

Banning Learners from the Streets

The Surrey Comet reports that the residents of Surbiton want learner drivers out of their streets. Why? They disturb them, they are slow (well, they're learners), and generally annoying.

The angry residents already compiled a list of 24 instructors who go through their streets, and soon they will ask those instructors to sign a "code of conduct", so their life can be a little more quiet.

However, the residents fail to see the other side of their complaint. Quiet streets are the perfect place to practice driving. Busy avenues are not a great place to practice three-point turns, and the residents should really understand it.

Hopefully they'll come to an agreement and everything will work out fine.

Robert Yate's Tips for Learners

You probably remember Robert Yates. He has three articles published in this blog, and today will be his fourth. Today the article is about tips for learners. It's definitely worth a read.

How to Pass Your Driving Test - Tips For Learners

You may want to know how to pass your driving test as quickly as possible when you first begin lessons. However, you shouldn't set a specific target for passing your test. This is a sure way to add to the pressure on you and make you more nervous. In turn, this will adversely affect your driving.

Instead, gain as much experience behind the wheel as you can, with friends or family or with professional instructor.

Although you shouldn't try to run before you can walk when it comes to driving, there are many useful driving test tips that can help you pass when you are being examined.

First, you should remain confident during your test. After all, your driving instructor won't put you forward for the test unless they believe you are ready to pass. If you remember this and share their confidence, you should pass without major difficulties.

Another important driving test tip is to ensure you are well rest before the test day, and have a healthy breakfast when you wake up. This will help you concentrate on the road and the examiner's instructions.

If you ask drivers how they passed the driving test, they will tell you it was through preparation. You can arrange to have a final driving lesson in the area around the test centre on the day of your test. This will help you familiarise yourself with possible routes, and any potential hazards you might face when you are taking your driving test.

Tips like these can help you go someway to controlling your nerves, but you should recognise that it is natural to feel a little nervous.

Arrive at the test centre early, so you have a few minutes to gather yourself and prepare for your test. During the test, ask for clarification if you don't completely understand any instructions.

Asking for further instructions won't be frowned on by your instructor, as it shows you are making the effort to follow things exactly.

Also, if you make a minor mistake don't assume you have failed. You can make up to 15 minor errors, but trying to count them is a sure fire way to fail your test.
If you want to know how to pass your driving test, simply relax, keep your eyes on the road and follow your examiner's instructions.

Robert Yates is an expert author and enjoys cars and driving. He has written extensively about driving, including helping learner drivers with useful driving test tips.

Road Blocking Idiots

It's another lovely Saturday, which means it's another post about the idios that fill the roads. This time it's about ones who stop on merging lanes and interrupt everyone.

Here, where I live, there is no right turn light, but rather a turn and then a merging lane into the road. However, some people have no idea how to handle this "complexity" and they stop in the merging lane.

This behavior makes me insane. Merging lanes are built for acceleration, not stopping. It's much harder to merge at low speeds, but some people just don't realize it. Some people even park in those lanes, which is really dangerous. But they just don't care.

Hopefully they'll learn one day.

Have a great weekend,

Finding Affordable Auto Insurance

Affordable auto insurance is something people try to find their entire lives. However, it's not as hard as it seems. Here is an article I wrote about it (promise: next week will be a driving test article on Friday).

Find Out All You Need About Affordable Auto Insurance

There are many companies out there that offer car insurance, however not all insurance companies are equal. Some charge car owners way too much for only minimum coverage. If you want to get your car insured, you need to keep in mind that you won't necessarily get what you pay for. You may think that the more you spend, the more you'll get, but that's not always the case.

Of course, if you're like most people, you probably want the most affordable auto insurance you can get. Unfortunately, these days insurance prices keep going up, and some states' laws make it hard for car owners to find affordable auto insurance.. It takes some research and shopping around to find the best company, especially if you're on a budget.

One thing you need to think about in order to narrow down your search is how much coverage you'll need. Some liability coverage policies, for instance, only take care of property damages but not medical expenses. Be sure to read about what all auto insurance policies cover the most for the cheapest price. Believe it or not, there are some insurance companies will offer you everything you need at a cost that will suit your budget.

Affordable auto insurance policies vary from state to state, depending on laws. Make sure you know what your laws require of you as you begin your research. You can then narrow down your options by searching for plans within your budget range. There are websites that will provide you with an easy, customizable search. Take advantage of features such as these on the internet so that you can find the most affordable auto insurance possible.

Remember: there are affordable auto insurance policies that truly offer a great deal of coverage. All it takes is a bit of browsing and searching on the internet, and you can find all the information you need about how to get affordable auto insurance.

Use this article, it can save you hundreds per month.

"No Refusal" Operation is a Go

The law enforcement on Harrison County, Texas participated in a "No Refusal" drunk driving campaign two weeks ago, on the 4th of July weekend. The idea behind it is to lower the number of drunk drivers.

The procedure is very simple: if an officer suspects that a driver is drunk, he may obtain a search warrant that will force people to take a blood test. Hence the name, "No Refusal".

Right now, a driver may refuse to take a breath or blood test. However, during this operation, the officers used warrants to force people to take those tests.

Be careful when you drive there, and never, NEVER, drink and drive.

Becoming a UK Learner Driver

First, let me start with an exciting announcement: this is the 500th post on this blog! 500 more to the 1,000 posts celebration.

Learning to drive in the UK is not easy, but it can be done. However, there are many preparations to do before you even start a car. Here is an article by Richard M Jenkins that explains the process.

An Introduction To Becoming A UK Learner Driver

Passing your driving test is an important step towards adulthood. The freedom and independence driving can bring is both exciting and rewarding. However, to become a fully qualified driver able to drive solo on UK roads involves time, hard work and money. It also involves complying with a variety of laws and legal requirements.

All learner drivers who wish to use a car on a public road must:

Be at least 17 years old (16 if receiving the highest rate of mobility allowance).

Hold a provisional driving license. To obtain a provisional driving license you need to apply to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) using a D1 form. You can do this online or by filling in the D1 form, which can be obtained from a Post Office. Applying for your provisional driving license will cost you £50.00.

Have car insurance cover.

Be accompanied by a fully qualified driver who is over 21 years old and has held a full driving license for a minimum of three years.

Display L-plates ( D-plates in Wales) on the rear and front of the car in use. L-plates must be displayed clearly and must be the correct color, shape and size. Don't make your own. You can buy the correct L-plates for a couple of pounds.

Not drive on motorways.

Drive cars that are roadworthy, taxed and have a MOT certificate.

Driving a car requires a great deal of concentration and alertness. Before you start driving you should get your eyes tested by an optician. Driving with less than perfect vision can be dangerous. In order to pass the driving test you must be able to read a current style number plate from 20 meters.

It should also be noted that if you suffer from or develop a serious illness such as epilepsy or diabetes then you must inform the DVLA and this could affect your right to drive.
The driving test itself is split into two parts - the practical driving test and the theory driving test.

The theory driving test has two elements. The first is a multiple-choice exam which consists of 50 questions and has a time limit of 57 minutes. To pass you must correctly answer 43 or more questions. The questions are based on the Highway code and road safety matters. The exam is taken using a touch screen computer. Full instructions are given prior to the exam.

The second element is the hazard perception test. After you have completed the theory test you will be allowed a short break after which a video tutorial, explaining how to take the hazard perception test, will play. Basically the test consists of 14 video clips that show common traffic situations. As the action unfolds you must identify one or two hazards that develop Thirteen of the videos will show one hazard and one will show two. To pass you must score at least 44 out of 75.

The driving theory test costs £30. If you fail to pass just one of the exams then you fail to pass the whole driving theory test.

You can not take the practical driving test, or even apply to take it, until you have passed the theory test. The practical driving test also has two elements. The first is known as the Show Me, Tell Me Test. This tests basic car maintenance and safety knowledge. The driving test examiner will ask you two questions, from a possible 13 questions. If either of these questions are answered incorrectly then you will receive one minor driving fault. The questions and the answers are published by the DSA and are freely available.

Once the Show Me, Tell Me test has finished the driving part of the practical test begins. This will last around 40 minutes and involves driving in various situations. Two of the three reversing maneuvers, either parallel parking, reversing into a side road or bay parking will have to be performed. Failure to perform either correctly will result in the learner failing the practical driving test.

The practical driving test costs £56.50 if taken on a week day or £67 if taken at the weekend.

For more driving test advice see the driving test and driving schools website A site for learner drivers providing guides on topics such as the driving theory test and cheap young drivers car insurance

Rolling Over

Yesterday I drove home from my grandparents, and on the way back home, on the separation between the two sides of the road, I saw a car. It was an ordinary car in an extraordinary position: upside down.

Apparently the driver took the turn (it was near an intersection) too fast or tried to swerve away from another car. The result is still the same: a car lying on its roof.

I hope the driver is OK and has learned the lesson.

Drive safely!

Discount Auto Insurance Eligibility

Discount auto insurance is the dream of every car owner. Car insurance rates are skyrocketing, and insurance companies are not trying to make the situation easier. However, this can be solved. Here is an article I wrote about this issue.

How to Know If You're Eligible For Discount Auto Insurance

If you're struggling to pay your car insurance payments every time you turn around, then you'll be glad to know that there are bonuses and discounts out there. There's a good chance that you could qualify for discount auto insurance. Eligibility depends on a few factors, such as the state you live in, how long you've been driving, the type of vehicle you drive, and so forth.

Those who drive safely, and that have gone a few years without being involved in any accident are usually eligible for discounts. In fact, there are different types of savings, discounts, and bonuses. In some states, students who take driver's education classes can get a discount on their insurance. Senior citizens can in some areas also, although sometimes they're required to take defensive driving classes.

You may be able to qualify for some sort of discount if your car has a lot of safety features. If your vehicle has air bags, anti-lock breaks, anti-theft features, etc., then you may be able to qualify for lower premiums. Keep in mind that plan rates vary from driver to driver, and it's usually the ones who always keep safety in mind that can qualify for discount auto insurance.

Still, there are plenty of different savings opportunities, so there's a good chance that you may be able to qualify for something. You can simply shop around a bit to see what all you can find. The internet is the best place to look for discounts these days, as most companies have websites where they keep customers updated with all the choices. All you need to do is some research and shopping around, and you should be able to find some type of discount auto insurance.

Even if you don't think you'll qualify for any type of discount auto insurance, it wouldn't hurt for you to do some reading up on the various options. You should also still do some shopping around. Remember, the internet is the best place to find discount auto insurance because some websites will allow you to search, shop, and compare.

I hope this article helped you as it helped many other people around the world.

Don't Text and Drive

Surprise, surprise! Texting while driving can be dangerous, and sometimes even more dangerous than drunk driving. Wow. What a big discovery. What a big truth revealed. What a big hype of something everybody already knows.

The Car and Driver Magazine conducted a reflex test for two drivers (definitely not a well-done research) who were texting and reading messages while they were driving. The results: like drunk drivers.

Everyone knows that texting while driving is a big distraction, and it should be illegal to do so. California already outlawed the use of cell phones while driving a year ago, and it's time for other states and countries to do that.

Teach Your Teens to Drive

Teaching teenagers to drive can be pretty much a nightmare. You are scared, they are panicked (you watch the Thursday videos, right?), and the overall atmosphere is not the best for teaching. However, there is a solution. Here is an article by Bonnie Borcyk that will help you handle this situation.

The Teenage Driving Nightmare - Tips For Teaching Your Teenager to Drive

Your daughter is sixteen and eager to get her permit. She has been bugging you since her birthday to take her to the DMV. You first think to yourself, "Where did the time go?" Then you're suddenly filled with anxiety when you remember how you learned to drive.

She's your first child, so you have never taught a teenager how to drive before. You ask around, but all of your friends are either in the same boat, or they laugh to themselves and wish you the best of luck. You don't even know where to begin, and so far it seems like a nightmare.

Teaching your teenager to drive can be much less painful. Here are some tips that successful parents have used:

1.) Be supportive - While this is your first time giving driving lessons, remember that it is also your child's first time in the driver's seat. She's most likely just as scared as you are, and she relies on you for support. Show it by helping her with the study aid so she can do well on the test to get her permit. Then, make the phone call for her to set up her appointment to take his exam, and offer to begin as soon as possible.

2.) Take baby steps - Begin with the basics. Do not venture onto a busy street just yet. Poor experiences in the beginning cause teens to be less comfortable later. It may be better to begin with automobile personalization, such as mirrors, temperature controls, and radio. Also explain what the dash board monitors mean. Once she understands where the turn signals are and how to operate the wipers, it is safe to begin backing down the driveway.

3.) Do not show anger - If your teenager does something incorrectly, there is no need to get angry. This will simply make her uncomfortable and either influence her to recruit another teacher or become too self-conscious. Angst often causes hesitation, which may lead to unnecessary mistakes.

4.) Allow your teenager to drive as much as possible - Insist that your teen drive anytime you run errands. This way, she will have more experience and become more confident. It will also get your teen out of the house and allows you to spend quality time with her. Begin with closer trips, such as the local supermarket, or the bank. Avoid expressway driving until your teen becomes confident in her skills as a new driver.

5.) Show the technique first - For more complicated parking and driving methods, it is sometimes best to show the technique and then teach it. For example, the K-turn is difficult for some novice drivers. If you show her the turn and break it down for her, she may learn it easier, depending on her learning style.

6.) Teach one complex method per day - K-turns and parallel parking should be taught in separate lessons, because they can become extremely frustrating for an inexperienced driver. Frustration has no business behind the wheel of a car, especially in the sue-happy world we live in today.

7.) Do a practice road test - When your teen gains enough experience and confidence in her driving, take her somewhere to practice what she would need to know for the road test. Of course, it is not proper to take her to the exact site of the exam, but there are plenty of places in every city where you can practice all that is required to pass the test. Critique each item and work on correcting any issues that would affect her ability to drive safely and pass the exam.

8.) Set rules regarding car use for after the road test - When your teen takes the road test, it is okay to set rules regarding use of the car. It is best that your teen not immediately go pick up her friends and cruise the town. Many accidents have occurred directly following road tests, because a teen boasted the new license. Set limits, such as no more than one other person in the family car while the inexperienced driver is behind the wheel, and no driving more than 30 minutes away from home.

Bonnie G. Borcyk - read more articles at http://www.helium.com/users/227906/show_articles

That's definitely an article to read when you teach teens to drive. However, don't forget there are some driving test guides out there that help you teach driving, but with more practical advise and less general talk.

The New Honda

Last week I promised you to write about my new car. It's a Honda Civic. Black on the outside, white on the inside, and has speeds of an airplane. It's simply amazing.

It takes only a gentle touch on the gas pedal to get to 50 km/h (30 mph), and an even more gentle touch to double that speed. The engine is so strong that it does only 2,000 RPM (rotations per minute) when driving at 90 km/h (56 mph). Well, six gears can also explain this fact.

The speedometer is a monitor showing numbers. The only dial in there measures the RPM of the engine. It's beautiful, and I really like it.

Hopefully I won't enter anymore near-accident situations, but at least I know I can maneuver well with this car.

Have a great, safe weekend,

Considering GEICO

GEICO is one of the biggest car insurance companies, and their TV commercials seem like they can't be stopped. Why are they so good? Read in an article I wrote about it.

Why Geico Car Insurance is So Highly Regarded

There is a lot that goes into an insurance plan. Some of it may even seem confusing to you. You need to know about all the different coverage, legal requirements, deductibles, and so forth. Narrowing down your choices may be hard if you're not 100% sure of what all you'll need in the first place. For this reason, many other drivers are opting for Geico car insurance.

Geico is perhaps the most famous household name when it comes to auto insurance. Aside from having memorable commercials, this company provides consumers with the best service imaginable. Even the most comprehensive coverage plans are affordable for most drivers. Geico always puts customers first---no matter what. It's easy to see why this company is so highly regarded by many people.

One great thing about having Geico car insurance is that you will have access to your account via the internet and even your mobile phone. If you need to call for help, a customer service representative will be readily available to help you. Whether you have any questions concerning your policy or need to file a claim, you'll always be able to get a hold of someone who will help you. When it comes down to it, getting Geico car insurance is plan will save you a lot of money and time, thanks to the affordability and convenience!

Driving Perfectly

The Intelligencer reports about the perfect 88-year old driver. In his 72 years of driving, he hasn't had a single stain on his driving record. Truly amazing.

How did he do that? Not driving fast and avoiding a major highway. That can mean he is over-cautious, not safe. He also believes that there should be a device in every car to limit its speed. Although he's seemingly a perfect driver, I hope his offer won't be accepted.

Online Driver's Education - Save Time & Money

The last obstacle between you and actually driving is driver's education. To help you bypass this obstacle, online driving schools have been built, and they play a big role in the driving industry now. Here is an article by Jasper Conan about this topic.

Driver Education - Take it Online

The pervasive use of the Internet for educational purposes has been really rampant these days. Initially used for providing college and university education, the Internet is now used for providing driver education as well. This is particularly appealing as students are not obliged to attend these classes after school. Instead, they can now exert greater control as to when they wish to attend the class.

There are a number of websites that offer online driver's education course. Many states have a DMV website that provides driver educations as according to the rules and regulations set forth in that state. Students can choose from a variety of driver education courses, training aides and study guides. If you are a student, make sure you choose teen Traffic Safety Education.

One important point to note is that different states have different driving laws. As such, one needs to ensure that the course that one is currently taking is approved by the state concerned. While some states do not require that this driver education be taken as a prerequisite to obtaining a learner's permit, it is advisable to take at least one driver education course so as to improve one's confidence and awareness on the various signs used on the road.

Driver education courses usually require students to attend a minimum of twenty-five classes before they are eligible to sit for the examination. With an online driver course, students can take as long as they wish to study the course material before sitting for the examination. You can log in to the website as often as you like to complete the course. Another bonus that comes with online driver courses is that such courses are usually loaded with interactive multimedia such as graphics, animations, videos and audio clips. Hence one can never get bored attending this course. Upon passing the examination, a DMV certificate will be mailed to the student the next day.

Another Idiot, Another Near-Accident

Last week I was driving back home from the movie theater (Transformers 2 - great moive). The road was empty. I approached a green light, and someone coming from the right side of the intersection turned right into the road I was driving in. It was a no-light turn, which means the driver only has to turn and merge. However, this driver ignored the merge lane and turned right into my lane as I was driving very close to him.

There was nothing much I could do - I swerved to the left and passed him. Luckily there was no-one in there and the car has a very high maneuvering ability (it's a new car - I'll tell you about it next week), so I got out of it safely.

It takes two people to cause an accident - an idiot and one who didn't notice. I noticed the idiot. Hopefully there won't be a next time.

Drive safely and use the mirrors!

Use the Internet to Pass Your Driving Test

The internet is an amazing medium. Since its appearance, it helped people to perform countless actions. One of them is passing a driving test. Here is an article I wrote about using the internet as a source of help for the test.

Learn the Secrets of Driving Online and Feel More Confident When Taking Your Road Test

There are more driver's education opportunities than ever before. While passing the driving test and getting a license has always been nerve-wracking, the internet has made studying and preparing easier. Students don't like sitting in class listening to boring lessons; nor do they like going over the same instruction book over and over again.

In fact, the DMV-issued handbooks don't even provide all the facts and information that students need for successful examination. If nothing else, traditional study material only teaches students the basics of driving. As such, many don't feel as if they're getting all the essential information they need and end up extremely nervous on test day because of it.

So how can the internet help? There are driver's ed programs that are suitable for any type of student. The e-learning course lessons can be customized exclusively for each and every student. Rules from every state are included in online programs. Not only are the courses beneficial in the sense that they provide all the essential information needed for passing, they also make learning a comfortable experience!

From the convenience of studying on a computer, individuals will feel more relaxed when studying, and will therefore feel more confidence on the day of the testing. Lack of knowledge isn't always the reason why so many people fail---lack of confidence does also. Thankfully, getting nervous when driving with the examiner is quickly becoming a thing of the past as more and more people receive thorough instruction and study material at home on their computers.

Don't allow yourself to become nervous when taking your driver's road test. By studying online in a relaxing environment, you'll feel more confident and capable!

Hope you found the article useful.
