8 Helpful Tips on Passing Your Driving Test on the First Try

Would you like to pass your driving road exam on the very first try? Half the people who take the test for the very first time fail! There reasons for failure are obvious: lack of preparation, nervousness, lack of confidence, etc. In some cases, the student driver is OVERLY confident. They are so sure of themselves that they don't realize they are making mistakes. Confidence is important, but you shouldn't be so confident that you are arrogant.

Don't let nervousness get the best of you, either. Here are some tips that will help you prepare for the test so that you will pass on your first try:

1. Practice driving in the test area. Get comfortable with the test routes ahead of time and you will be able to drive them on the day of the test. Drive around; take note of all of the signs. Check out the posted speed limits. Make the appropriate turns.

2. Be sure to get a good night's rest. Drink some chamomile tea before going to bed. It will help you sleep. The more refreshed you are, the better you will perform during the test.

3. Get the basics down pat. Don't put so much focus on the hard stuff, like parallel parking, that you neglect the basics. Even if you already know the basics, give yourself a refresher every now and then. Read through the guides and go out and practice in an area where there aren't many cars.

4. Make sure you're comfortable with braking. Making mistakes with the brakes is pretty common among first-time test takers. You will have to use your own judgment based on the circumstances and speed. Generally, you will want to start braking in plenty of time before coming to a complete stop.

5. Always keep your hands positioned correctly on the wheel. Steer smoothly. Never jerk the wheel, under any circumstance. The turns should be smooth and gradual.

6. There are a number of things that can go wrong on the road at any given moment. You must learn how to be observant. You need to not only focus on your own driving, but keep an eye out for other drivers. Be prepared to react to any dangerous situation.

7. Keep a safe distance between yourself and the vehicle in front of you. There should be at least three car lengths between your vehicle and the one ahead. This is the standard distance to keep on any type of road.

8. Practice parallel parking. This can be a real challenge, but you can learn how to do it. Practice it on a curb near your house. You could also set up some trash cans and practice parking in between them. While you're at it, practice hill parking.

Keep these pointers in mind and you should be able to pass your test on the first try!
