In order to pass your driver's test you need to develop good driving habits. It's easier to develop bad habits than good habits. This is why learning how to drive isn't easy. Just because you know how to steer a car doesn't mean you will be able to pass your test. You must know and follow the rules of the road.

Did you know that only half of the people who take their driving test past the first time? The other half of the examinees have to take their test a second, third, or even fourth time before they finally pass!

It's a good idea to stay as calm as possible during the test. Getting nervous is fine - everybody does. What's important is how you deal with the nervousness. You can't let it get the best of you. You must breathe deeply and relax before you begin your test.

If you develop good driving habits right now, you'll feel less nervous when you take the exam.

Here are some good habits that drivers must possess.

1. Get your vehicle ready before driving. Your seatbelt needs to be on. Make sure your passenger(s) have their seatbelt(s) on.

2. Make gradual starts and stops. Never brake hard unless it's an emergency and you have no choice.

3. Before putting your foot on the pedal, make sure that the path is clear up ahead.

4. Pay attention to your line of sight. When it becomes restricted, reduce the speed.

5. Know when to start reducing speed so that you can stop in time for a red light or stop sign.

6. Before entering an intersection, check that your right, front, and left zones are clear.

7. Always check for blind spots before moving the car to either side.

8. You should always be four seconds behind the vehicle in front of you. Take note to where they are and start counting "2,001, 2,002, 2,003, 2,004". By the time you get to the last number, you should be at that spot.

9. Anticipate dangerous mistakes by other drivers ahead of time. Be prepared to respond to their mistakes at any time. Quick reactions won't always protect you.

10. Keep extra distance from other drivers if they seem aggressive or drunk.

These are some of the many good habits that safe drivers develop. Have a responsible adult go with you as you practice driving. That person should have a clean driving record. They should help you realize your mistakes so that you don't make them again in the future.
