Gain Confidence When Driving

When driving, one of the most important feelings is confidence. Too much can ruin you, but not having enough is also a disaster. Here is an article I wrote about this topic.

How to Feel Confident with Your Driving Abilities So That You Pass Your Driver’s Test

Everybody wants to pass their driver's test on the first try without any effort, but unfortunately, that's almost impossible to do. Approximately half of the test takers fail on their first try. Almost everybody is very nervous during their first try. Nervousness stems from lack of confidence.

How can you be confident in your driving ability? How can you keep from being nervous? The easiest way to overcome your anxiety is to practice and become comfortable behind the wheel. That said, you don't want to be TOO comfortable, as overconfidence can cause you to mess up as well.

Here are some tips on feeling confident about your driving:

• First things first, make sure you understand the rules of the road, traffic signs, and so forth. All of this information can be found in a guide to the written test. If you haven't taken the written test yet, you can find some practice tests online to help you prepare. Many of the questions on the practice tests are actual questions on the real test.

• Keep all of the rules in mind when you're practicing. Pay close attention to all of the signs. Know what you're supposed to do at each and every sign. This includes coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. Don't just slow down. You should also stop at a yellow light rather than attempt to go through it.

• Either practice driving with a qualified instructor, or ask a responsible adult for whom you have respect to help you. The person should inform you of your mistakes without yelling. Never practice driving with an anxious or nervous person.

• Ask others who have failed about the mistakes they made. Look online for a list of common mistakes. You might even be able to find a checklist of the things the examiner will watch for. Make a list of the mistakes you think you will make. Know your weaknesses and work on them.

• Although you should start out driving on a clear day, you should eventually practice in different weather conditions. If you can learn how to drive in rainy or even icy conditions, you will feel more confident. Just BE CAREFUL! Only practice driving in bad weather in an area where there aren't other cars.

• While you're at it, practice driving in various areas. Start off at an empty parking lot and work your way up to a slow road with few cars on it. Once you're comfortable with that, start driving on a two-lane road. And then, finally, practice on a busy freeway.

As long as you take your time and learn how to drive slowly, you should feel confident enough to pass your test. Good luck!
